LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

MEETING OF COUNCIL

NORTH AUCKLAND DEVELOPMENTS

The council of the New Zealand Rugby League met last evening, Mr. E. Stanworthy being voted to the chair in the absence of the president, Mr. C A. Sneddon.

The Northern League advised that at the request of prominent residents and players of Kaikohe, several officials journeyed north to discuss linking up with the code. A strong provisional committee was elected, with a view to a consolidation conference with other districts interested, at which the New Zealand League could be directly represented.

Mr. R. W. Pollock and other members referred in complimentary terms to the progress being made in North Auckland, and it was decided to ask the lion. organiser of the League, Mr. W. J. Hammill, to proceed north to consult with Northern officials and centres concerned.

It was decided to play the Northern Union Challenge Cup match between South Auckland (challengers) and Northland at Hikuraugi on a date to be arranged next month. The game is to be regarded as a trial, in view of the selection of the New Zealand team to oppose the British touring team.

It was urged that efforts should be made to run a special train from Auckland to Whangarei on the day of the British match. The secretary was instructed to write the Railway Board in connection with arrangements.

The matter of selection and assembly of the North Island team, and also matters in connection with the New Zealand team, under the control of Mr. W. M. Kelly, Australian coach, were considered at length.

In regard to the Auckland League's request for a ruling on the incident in Saturday's match, in which Clarke (Marists) scored when the referee judged that Dolgrosso (Ponsonby) had touched the falling ball before Clarke, who was off-side, gathered it to score, the council decided that the question was one of fact.

Reinstatements were confirmed as follows:—John T. Douglas, W. R. Simpson, R. Hyland, S. C. Dufty, C. Pennell, J. Taplin, B. Lyons, G. Fairgray, J. Somervell, A. Broadhcad, G. Whye, W. Hassam (Auckland), and of I. Merson (Wellington), the last mentioned to play at Christchurch. The transfer of M. Lee from Auckland to South Auckland was approved.

SATURDAY'S PROGRAMME.

MARISTS MEET DEVONPORT.

The programme at Carlaw Park on Saturday provides for three games which should keep interest at a high pitch. Marists, last year's champions, and Devonport, unbeaten so far in this season's competition, will be the star game of the day. After having opened the season -with a defeat, Marists have steadily strengthened up, and their match against Devonport is looked upon as a test of which of the two is likely to light out the ultimate championship honours with the younger Richmond and Newton teams. The game is bound to bo a fast and keenly-contested one. It will be preceded by the Ponsonby-Citv match and on No. 2 ground Richmond and Newton, both of whom are distinctly in the running for the season's honours, will meet for the fhist time.
