EMPIRE DAY.
BRITAIN CELEBRATES. Imperial Keynote At Many Functions. • MEMORIAL TO FOUNDER. (British Official Wireless.) (Rcceivcd 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, May 24. Empire Day is being observed throughout Britain to-day. Special celebrations are taking place practically in all the schools. Warships and Government establishments at the naval ports were dressed overall, and flags were flown at the mastheads and over buildings. In London and elsewhere several Empire luncheons, promoted by Dominion societies and other patriotic organisations are being held. The Prince of Wales is to preside at the Empire Day luncheon at Olympia, London, and to-night the Duke of Connaught will be in the chair for the Royal Empire Society dinner. An outstanding >?vent of the day's celebrations in London was the unveiling this morning by the Duke of Connaught of a stained glass window in St. Paul's Cathedral in memory of the Earl of Meath, the founder of the Empire Day movement.
