CEMENT WORKS TO REOPEN.
RESUMPTION AT PORTLAND. FIVE WEEKS' CESSATION. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAEEI, this day. After being closed for five weeks, on account of slackness of orders and the fact that the storage bins were full, Wilsons (N.Z.) Portland Cement Works will reopen on" Monday.^ The number of men to be employed will be about 130, to which figure the number was reduced just prior to the closing of the works. All the old employees will be re-engaged. During tlie closing of the works the men have all had a proportion of the work available in loading boats and discharging coal, but they will be very glad to get back into regular employment. Although the company is still holding fairly large stocks it is hoped, with a continuation of the present trade, to remain open during the winter.
