NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL. 1 -V The fortnghtly meeting of the Northcote c Borough Council was Held, last evening. 1 The Mayor, Mr. R. Martin, presided. North Shore Sewerage.—The Mayor r stated that the conference in Auckland in connection with the Auckland and bub- £ urban Drainage Board's suggested compiehensive scheme had been attended by Messrs. Outstanding Kates.—Legal proceedings . are to be taken for the recovery of all rates outstanding for nearly three years. Proposed Relief Committee, lhe Mayol reported having interviewed representatives of several local organisations in connection with the suggestion to combine the whole into one central body. J - lie position had been by no means finalised, for while some were favourable, others were uncertain. Mr. J. F. Potter said that if the council would give a lead by calling a public meeting there should be little doubt of success. The matter was hell over till the next meeting. Unemployed Association—The Mayor said he regarded the vote of no confidence in the executive at last Friday's meeting of the Northcote Unemployed Association as confidence in the work of the council for the relief workers during the past twelve months. The president _ and secretary had never approached him in any way. Quite the contrary attitude had adopted by the new executive. Richmond Avenue.—As the outcome 01 a petition from several property owners requesting attention to the footpaths in Richmond Avenue, the owners of seven properties are to be requested to arrange for the installation of storm water drainage of their sections. The Mayor said the cost would range from 10/ to 12/. Football Ground for Boy Scouts. —Permission was granted the Scoutmaster, Mr. D. B. Reid, to use the flat in Little Shoal Bay Reserve for playing Rugby football for the Northcote troop of 60 Boy Scouts. Assessor. —The only nomination received for the borough assessor under the Valuation of Land Amendment Act, 1027, was Mr. A, E. Greenslade, and he was appointed. Appreciation was recorded of the services during the past three years of Mr. E. C. Davey, whom the Mayor explained was unable to accept office for a further period. Gordon Road.—Early attention is to be given to improvement in the condition of the road in the vicinity of the corner of Gordon Road and Waimana Avenue. PAPATOETOE TOWN BOARD. 1 The Papatoetoe Town Board held its 1 meeting last evening. _ The chairman, Mr. ■ W. J. Nicholson presided. ; This Year's Rates.—The estimates fiub--1 mitted by the finance committee were , accepted by the board, and it was decided to make a levy of 2%d in the £1 for this I year's rates (which is a reduction of a farthing in the £1 on last year), with a reduction of 5 per cent on all rates paid ' within a month of the date of falling " due. L Rent Assistance Under Unemployment 3 Act. —A letter was received from the \ Otahuhu Borough Council seeking the ■> board's support of a resolution of the \ Otahuhu Welfare League advocating rent ; assistance under the Unemployment Act. 3 The board approved the resolution, 'but 1 it was pointed out that as it was doubtful whether the unemployment levy_ at 3 present was sufficient to meet the revised 1 scheme, it was considered inadvisable to 1 further the matter. (. Wallace Road Footpath.—A letter from , a resident of Wallace Road, regarding the extension of the Wallace Road footpath, 3 was referred to the works committee for 0 immediate attention.
