LABOUR M.P.'S CLAIM.

FOOD, WARMTH AND SHELTER FOR THOSE WILLING TO WORK. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. A statement on the unemployment situation was issued to-day by Messrs. O. H. Chapman, R. McKeen, W. Nash and R. Semple, Labour members ot Parliament representing Wellington seats. They assert that all willing to work should have food, fuel, clothing and shelter while they are available; that vandalism cannot be too strongly condemned; that shopkeepers whri> liavo had their windows damaged eliould bo reimbursed the cost of replacement, and that the Government should cvei y week pay to willing relief workers sufficient to purchase food, fuel and clothing to keep them in their homes. They promise that Labour members will undertake to co-opcrate with tho Government in measures to provido adequate food, fuel, clothing and shelter for the unemployed. Reference is made in the following terms to the recent disorders: —"The recent outbreak of vandalism must be condemned by every citizen who has the progress, good government and wellbeing of all citizens at heart. Tho irresponsible smashing of windows of innocent shopkeepers, many of whom are themselves suffering from the depression, and who have generously assisted the unemployed and other necessitous cases, will not solve the problem' nor will it remove the hardship and suffering of the unemployed. All the available evidence, however, proves that the damage was caused by a very fewpersons and the genuine unemployed were in no way responsible."
