TE AWAMUTU TRACK.

THE WAIKATO MEETING. PROTOMINT GOES WELL. TAURUA AND CHATEAU PLEASE. Trainers were granted the use of the course proper, 12ft out from the rails, for fast work for their charges at Te Awamutu yesterday morning, and some useful tasks were indulged in. All the Te Rapa candidates were allotted fast work, and performed pleasingly. Waipa will have a strong contingent at that meeting. The Course Proper. Taurua hopped away from the six-fur-long barrier to place the distance behind in 1.18. He was assisted over the last half-mile by his stable-mate Chateau. Taurua worked nicely, and only needs to repeat this performance to be. prominent in the Horotiu Handicap on Saturday. Chateau's prospects also look blight. Kanapa, Beryl Latour and Emancipation went away together from the live-furlong post. All three were hitting out nicely to take 1.5. Beryl La tour continues to work on nicely, and will be in line fettle to fulfil her engagement at Te Rapa. lvanapa and Emancipation are also in racing trim. Protomint was running on to finish well ahead of Awarere, who was several lengths ahead of Trishna, at the conclusion of seven furlongs in 1.31. They covered the first three in 38s, four in 51s.

The most attractive task of the morning was provided by Limeeh, who, in company with Eager Rose, placed seven furlongs behind in 1.30 3-5. This was a useful effort. Liineen is recovering from her lameness, although at times she shows nigns of it. Arawa Rose was sent over a mile, but was not moving above threequarter pace. This maiden can be relied upon to give a good account of herself in the Fairfield Handicap on Saturday as she has speed. The three yearlings, the High Art—Baby Doll colt, the Diacquenod— Finelli filly and the Gay Shield—Boynettc filly were sprinted twice down the straight. These youngsters are making good progress, and should develop into useful performers. Leitrim (Mcßae) jumped six fences on the hurdle track safely. On the Plough. The following were given pace work on the plough track:—Shamgar, Len, Musketoon —Sibford gelding," Sea Ruler, Sir Musk,' Lucidus, Te Homai, Soloist, Jonathan, Miss Lorraine, Rose Lupin and Just Nell. Little Toy, who knocked herself while schooling on Saturday, has developed soreness, and is not being persevered with at present, H. Russell has recommissioned Miss Lorraine and Jonathan, but at present they are being restricted to jogging exercise. Riding engagements for Saturday are: — J. Day, Kanapa, and possibly Trishna; J. Mcßae, Leitrim, Luminary; A. Baker, Eager Rose; H. Brown, Arawa Rose; E. Keesing, Chateau", Taurua; T. Rowan, Nassau Lady, Protomint.
