(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, Monday.

Although there have been no recent developments in cancer research, medical men are hopeful that the investigations being carried out in London at present will add considerably to the knowledge of tlio disease, particularly in connection with early diagnosis, according to Dr. E. F. Dath, professor of pathology at the Medical School, Dunedin, who was a passenger on the Maunganui, which arrived to-day from Sydney. Dr. Dath said investigations were being carried out in London under the direction of tho British Empire Cancer Campaign, and he thought it quite possible that within about a year something of very "Teat value in connection with early diagnosis and better treatment of the disease would bo known. A great deal of work was being done oil the Continent, particularly in regard to tile treatment of the disease bv deep X-ray therapy. Very considerable advances had been made in this form of treatment. "I devoted considerble attention to the methods adopted for educating the public in regard to cancer in various countries," said Dr. ]>,ith. "Probably the most intensive method of public education in this connection is carried our, iu America and Germany. I obtained full particulars of their methods, an.l some of them may be adaptable for use in New Zealand."
