WANGANUI TOPICS.

FERNDEN FOR MARTON

KOROKIO WORKING WELL.

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.")

WANGANUI, Tuesday.

Midinette gave a further taste of her brilliancy in winning the Sires' Produce Stakes at Awapuni, while Pomp showed something like his best form on the second day. Both of these horses have run .vith more than their share of bad luck during the season, otherwise other victories would have come their way in addition to those scored. Midinette is to be turned out at Koatanui for a spell, and as she promises to furnish into a high-class- three-year-old the Limond —Motley filly should win some good races for Mr. Geo. Currie next season. Having met with an accident as a foal, the Pombal—Motley filly which W. Rayner lias had in work has not grown as much as she should have done. It has been decided to put her by for a few months, when she will again be taken up to be got ready for the late autumn. Rayner will bring in with him from Koatanui the two-year-old Linoleum, by Limond—lnlaid, also a yearling colt by Moabite out of Pennon. This youngster is expected to turn out something above the average. Pomp is to race at Marton and Wanejamii, and as he is in great form just now is likely to win another race or two in the near future. Just An Idea did not jump too well at Awapuni, due to the fact that he was a bit above himself in condition, having had a let up after; Easter. He is to be schooled over the -big fences; and if he shapes well will probably be a starter in the crosscountry events at the Egmont meeting. • Korokio has been doing good work and shows no signs of soreness. If she goes to the post fit and well at Marton next Saturday she will run a big race in the Autumn Handicap. • ■ Eernden has been doing some schooling at Waverley in company with that good jumper Gilgai, and the Redfern gelding has shown that he can, negotiate the fences in good style. He may be a runner in the hurdles at the Egmont meeting. The yearling filly by-Limond—Homage, purchased by Mr. J. Donald at Trentham, is to leave Westmere this week to, go. into J. T. Jamieson's stable. The entries for the Wanganui Steeplechase meeting must be considered very satisfactory and some excellent racing should be provided each day, May 12 and 14. The total entries are only 15 short of last year—24l as against 256. There are eighteen engaged in the big steeplechase, the same number as last year, while 14 figure in the Century Hurdles com-; pared with 18, and in both these races good fields are promised, both in size and quality.
