BIBLE SOCIETY SUNDAY
Sunday next is the day appointed as Bible Society Sunday, and special addresses will be given at services in Auckland. The society is known as the greatest missionary organisation in the world, and it has been said that if there were not a Bible society in existence the Christian Church would have to take steps to institute one. The society aims at securing that the Bible shall be made accessible to every man by means of •translation into the tongue he can understand, and that every man shall be given an opportunity of securing a copy for himself. The number of languages and dialects captured by the society now totals 644, including 38 languages in Braille type for the blind. Last year the circulation of the scriptures surpassed all previous records, excepting that of 1929. At
ji time when many experiments in social and political reconstruction are ending disastrously, it is felt that secure moral and spiritual foundations for economic and national progress must be found.
