"NO SINISTER PURPOSE."
EXPLOSIVES UNDER HOUSE
IN POSSESSION OF RELIEF
WORKER.
ALLEGATIONS BY POLICE,
Pcrcival Herbert William Grcenaway, a labourer, aged 2G, after a period on remand in gaol, appeared in the Police Court to-day to be dealt with by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.JMC., on a charge of being found without lawful excuse in possession of explosives, four plugs of gelignite, two detonators and a piece of fuse, on April 19.
Detective Sergeant Kelly said that as the result of information received by the police a search was made of accused's house. The explosives were found under the building. "Theer is no suggestion that Greenaway had got the gelignite for any sinister purpose, or that lie had taken part in any demonstration," said counsel. "As a matter of fact, he went on working when other relief workers struck."
"That is so," said Detective Scrge.mt Kelly, "but since he was last in Court we received information alleging that Greenaway was connected with two nieu who went around the country blowing up safes. They are now in gaol. Green - away has never been in trouble previ-
ously."
"There is no proof of what Mr. Kelly says," remarked counsel. "It is only information and not evidence. Greenaway said he knew the men in question, but did not know they were burglars."
(J'-eonaway was convicted and ordered to ■ me up for sentence if called upon within six months.
