HONOLULU TRIAL.
Lieut. Massic Declared Sane By
Alienists,
WILL JURY COMPROMISE ?
(Received 1 p.m.)
HONOLULU, April 25,
Testimony of alienists, for the prosecution, was ended to-day, the purport being that Lieutenant Massie, charged with three others with the murder of a Hawaiian youth, was quite sane. His mother-in-law, Mrs. Fortescue, who is also accused, wept as the events leading up to the case were recalleu.
The rival attorneys will argue their cases before the jury on Tuesday. There is a prospect of the case going to the jury on Wednesday. The result will depend on whether the jurors consider the case according to its legal aspects or exercise the human sympathies skilfully evoked by the defence in Lieutenant Massie's and his wife's testimony.
Many observers expect the jury to disagree or to compromise with a verdict on some lesser crime.
