MARGARINE AND BUTTER.
In their monthly survey of the dairy produce trade, Messrs. Samuel Page and Co., London, for whom Messrs. Dalgety and Co. are New Zealand agents, state, under date March 8: — There has been an appreciable falling off in arrivals of Danish during the last fortnight, and a correspondingly better demand for Empire butter from those districts which usually take Danish, but it is not possible to say if this desirable state of things will be maintained. The Dane has never yet hesitated to meet the market. The large consumption of butter at popular prices has seriously affected the sale of margarine. Prices of the latter are reduced, and several laree manufacturers are making strenuous efforts to recapture the trade by means of newspaper competition.
