MEDICAL COMFORTS.

The committee of the Medical Comforts Depot reports another year of steady and successful work; The committee met four times during the year, the meetings were well attended, and a large amount of business transacted. During the-year the depot had benefited by a number of donations, including nine invalid chairs, two bed rests, six pairs of crutches, and ' other useful articles.

I : The depot was opened in August, 1928, I and to the end of 1929 180 comforts went out; in 1930, 303 ; and in 1931, 452. This showed .that the depot was much needed, and people were availing themselves of its benefits. As the charges were moderate, the benefits of the depot were felt by a number of- people, and in any case of hardship, especially to returned soldiers and old age pensioners, charges were reduced or remitted. All money received for the hire of comforts was spent on new and increased comforts, and in the past 17 articles had been purchased. The depot possessed 21 invalid and spinal chairs, 38 pairs of crutches, air rings, bed rests, etc. Invalid chairs, crutches and air rings were most in demand, though requests were often made for the larger and more expensive articles, as fowler beds, bed tables and supports. All returned articles were thoroughly cleansed, sterilised and repaired before being sent out again.
