STOLE PIPE AND TOBACCO.

SEAMAN'S DRUNKEN , THEFT.

The theft of a pipe valued at 3/0 and tdbacco worth 1/6, belonging to Albert Fampton, was admitted by a seaman, William Moore (32), who came before the Police Court this morning.

It was stated by Detective Sergeant Kelly that Moore yesterday went to the room of a man in a lodging house, where he shaved with a razor lent to him. Later the pipe and tobacco were found, to be missing from tho room. Shortly afterwards, from a description given, a constable accosted Moore, who produced the stolen pipe. He did not have the tobacco. "The pipe is recovered, but I don't know whether the owner wants it back now," said Mr. Kelly. "Moore only had 4d on him when arrested." Counsel said Moore was employed on relief works. It was a drunken theft, Moore explaining that when he woke up he found the articles in his possession.

Moore was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon, the magistrate remarking that it was useless making an order for him to pay for a new pipe, the tobacco or the expenses of a witness.
