FRANKLIN RACING CLUB.

CUP TO ROYAL DOULTON. SEVERAL CLOSE FINISHES. HUNTINGDON WINS SPRINT. The weather was perfect for the annual meeting of the Franklin Racing Club, which was held at Pukekohe on Saturday. There was a large attendance, and some excellent racing was witnessed, several of the finishes being most exciting. Nassoek won the Puni High-weight and Hawthorn scored a surprise win in the Bombay Handicap, paying a good double figure dividend. Royal Doulton's success in the Franklin Cup was most popular, for she is owned in tho district and it was her second victory in the race. The totalisator handled £15,066, against £22,784 last year, a decrease of £7718. A Hot One Beaten. Only eix runners faced the starter for the Onewhcro Hack of nine furlongs, Great Emblem being at odds on with £694 from Gay Idea. ( £354) and Glenrata (£377). The early pacemaker was Holly Holm, who led out of the straight from Stonehenge, Great Emblem, Glenrata, Gay Idea. Eose La tour was pulled up. Going along the back Stonehenge assumed charge from Holly Holm, Great Emblem, Glcnrata and Gay Idea. There was no change across the top, and at the straight entrance the order was Holly Holm , , Great Emblem, Glonrata and Gay Idea. Once in line for the judge Mclnally brought Gay Idea through and she beat the favourite by half a length, with Glenrata two lengths further away. Holly Holm was fourth. A Surprise. Steady Fire, Holly Hoim, Lueess, Black Marlin and Dayform did not parade for the Buckland Hack. The machine disclosed that betting took a fairly wide range, and Operatic was the actual favourite with £382. The next sought after were Alpina ( £315) and Escalus (£249). Searcher carried £200 and Desert Star £204. Operatic was the first to ehow out, and in the earlier stages led from Escalus, Principal, Alpina, Desert . Star and Royal Survey. On entering the back stretch Alpina shot to the front, and quickly established a four lengths' advantage over Operatic, Escalus, Principal, Desert Star and Searcher. Alpina was just a shade in front at the straight entrance, and at this stage Desert Star and Principal were moving up fast. There was a good race over the final phase, and 50 yards from home Desert Star shot to the front, and went on to win by half a from Searcher, who beat Principal by'°a like distance. Escalus was fourth, and then came Alpina, Royal Survey and Carlaris.

Never Headed. All acceptors w'_-nt to the post for the Tuakau Flying Handicap, Huntingdon being made a very hot order withJE7o2The next fancied were Tea Chat (£292) and Ganpat (£277). There was practically no change ac, oss the top, and when they straightened up for home Huntingdon was in the van from Tea Chat, Hampton Park, Imamint, Ganpat and White Wings. The favourite looked to have things all his own way, but Ganpat challenged strongly and just failed by a head. Hampton Park, too, came fast over the concluding stage and was only a lorg neck behind Ganpat. Imamint was fourth, and then camo White Wings ana Tea Chat. Another Favourite Scores. Ei"ht runners faced the barrier for the final event of the day, Vandyke and Sprin* Abbey being scratched. The puDlic sorted out Mr. W. Vanderspeck s gelding Jalldy Karo as liaving best chance over Paganelli ( £396) and Persham (£330). Karangapai, noticed for good running earlier in the day, was supported by good judges to the extent of £242. Persham began the quickest from Paganelli, Karangapai, Llanore and Envoy. As they went across the top Paganelli was two lengths clear of Persham, Karangapai, Llanore and Jalldy Karo. Paganelli was first into the straight from Persham, Karangapai, with Jalldy Karo coming fast, and Llanore. When well clown the running Home callod on Jalldy Karo, and the gelding made a great effort to get up in time to narrowly beat Karangapai by half a head, with Paganelli three parts of a length further away.
