CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

THE YEAR IN REVIEW. I NEW BUILDING WANTED. According to the annual report of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, the accounts show a somewhat better position for the year's work than was the case after 1930. There were no major items of expenditure of a non-recurrent type, but the condition of the building has caused some concern to the executive, which feels that in future the upkeep of the building will be a greater drain on the finances than in the past. "The building itself," says the report, "has largely outlived its usefulness, and it is hoped th.it when conditions improve some scheme may be formulated for the erection of new premises." The statement of accounts shows an excess of expenditure over income of £255, the expenditure totalling £2021. The chief items are salaries, £1080, charges in connection with the hall, £2SI; printing, postage and purchase of publications, £245; and rent of offices, transferred to the building fund, £150. Donations totalling £100 were made during the year. The main item of inconie was subscriptions., £1500. The chief assets shown in the balance-sheet are bank deposits and local body debentures, £2043, and freehold property, £3577. The ordinary membership at the end of the year stood at 571, compared with 587 at the end of 1930. In 1931 there were 25 associate members, as against two for the previous year.
