PRiME COWS AND HEIFERS FIRMER
Alfred Buckland and Sons., Ltd., report; At our weekly Westfield fat stock market held to-day our beef pens contained 163 head (comprising 105 steers and 58 cows and heifers), against 214 head at last week s market. There was no improvement in the demand, and values for ox beet" were unchanged. Prime young cows and heifers were slightly firmer. Extra choice ox sold to 21/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 17/(5 to 20/; secondary and plain, 15/ to 17/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 17/ to 20/; secondary, 10/ to IG/. lixtra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £8 to £S 17/6; heavy, £7 to £7 17/6; lighter, £6 to £6 17/6; light, £5 to £5 17/6; small and unfinished, £3 10/ to £4 17/6. Extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £4 10/ to £5; heavy, £3 15/ to £4 7/6; lighter, £3 to £3 12/6; others, £1 to £2 17/6. Heavy prime steers ranged in price from £7 5/ to £S 7/6; lighter, £6 2/6 to £7 2/6; light, £5 to £6; small and unfinished, £2 10/ to £4 15/. Heavy prime young cows and heifers, £4 5/ to £4 17/6; lighter, £3 7/6 to £4 2/6; light, £2 10/ to £3 5/; others, £1 to £2 5/.
