STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

LEFT FOR GISBORNE. Measurer left Takanini for Gisborne yesterday to fulfil engagements at the forthcoming meetings there. IMPROVING WITH AGE. Alloy, who won the Bay of Islands Cup and performed well at the Takapuna meeting, has been taken to Matamata for the fixture there on Saturday, where he is engaged in the Hack Cup, one mile and a quarter. Alloy has been staying on well lately and he should give a good account of himself in that event. HAS PLENTY OF SPEED. Lady Musk ran a solid race when she dead-heated for first place with Limeen in the Turua Handicap at Thames, and it' she repeats that form in the Railway Handicap at Matamata the should be in the picture. The Musketoon filly has abundance of speed, and now that she is getting more solid further wins should come her way before the country meetings arc over. DISTANCE SHOULD SUIT. Star Lap has found six furlongs a little too far for licr, so she should be well suited by the distance of the Putaruru Stakes, five furlongs, at the Matamata meeting on Saturday. At Te Rapa in the spring she showed a lot of pace, and also at Takapuna and Thames, but she has yet to break her maiden status. Star Lap is trained by A. E. Cox at Te Aroha. RAN SECOND TWICE. Sea Ruler has not done a great deal of racing, but he has shown promise. At the Waikato spring meeting he was second to Gay Marigold in the Kuakura Stakes, live furlongs, while in* a good field in the Waipa Plate, six'furlongs, at the Te Awamutu meeting, he was only beaten. Sea Ruler, who is one ot" A. Cook's team, is engaged at the Matamata meeting next Saturday. TO RACE OVER HURDLES. The Chief Ruler gelding Just an Idea is reported to be showing good promise iiv his schooling efforts oyer hurdles at Wanganui. Just an Idea is racing on the flat at the Egmont meeting, which opens to-day, but will probably contest hurdle races at the Wanganui meeting later oil in the month. This gelding has plenty of pace on the flat and should develop into a useful performer over the battens. SHOWED PROMISE. Jonker, a two-year-old colt by Grand Ivnight from White Tulip, who races in the colours of the Takaiyni trainer, J. T. Jamieson, made a favourable impression when he finished third in the Calliope Handicap, five furlongs, at Takapuna. This was his first start, and he should do well later on. He was purchased at the Trentham sales last year for llOgs and he hai good staying blood in his veins. ENGAGED IN STAKES. Wclco'me Lu, who figures in the Putaruru Stakes, five furlongs, at the Matamata meeting, showed promising form at Thames when he ran second to Tin Lap in the Parawai Stakes, five furlongs, just being beaten by half a length. On the second day Gigantic, Tin Lap and. Welcome Lu were separated by the barest of margins in a similar event. Welcome Lu, with his light impost, should again be in the picture. A LIKELY LIGHTWEIGHT. The form displayed by Lady Lulu at the Taumarunui meeting was impressive, and if she has gone on the right way since then she is a possibility in the Matamata Hack •Cup. This filly is trained on the course, which should be a further factor in her favour, and with 7.0 to carry she is likely to beat more than will beat her. So far Lady Lulu has not been successful beyond eight furlongs, but her previous running points to her being capable of seeing out longer distances. HARD TO BEAT. King's Archer is top-weight with 9.-1 in the Matamata Hack (Jup on Saturday and he will be one of the principal fancies when the machine closes. At the recent Taranaki meeting he won the Atiawa Hack Handicap, one mile and half a furlong, with 8.13, while on the second day he was just beaten over a similar distance with 9.9 in the saddle. Later he won the Stratford Cup in good style. : King's Archer can carry weight well and he should take some beating. AN IMPROVED HORSE. In each of his contests at Takapuna Great Emblem displayed encouraging staying ability, and he looks an improved horse in every way since racing at that meeting. His next appearance will be in the Hack Cup at Matamata on Saturday, and with the light impost of 7.6 he is sure to be very troublesome to the top-weight division. Great Emblem, who finished on very gamely in his races last week, is not an easy horse to ride, and consequently it is doubtful if a lightweight boy will be capable of getting the best out of him. WILL HAVE TO IMPROVE. Chromadyne had two more failures registered against him at the Takapuna meeting aud unless he shows marked improvement R. Hannon will find it hard to win a race with the Quia Abbey gelding. This ■ horse has always raced best when the groun'd has. been soft, and he may not reveal his true form until the winter meetings arrive. However, as the result of his past failures Chromadyne is now well down in the "weights, and once he strikes winning form some good efforts can be expectcd of him. i DISPLAYS STAYING ABILITY. In several of his previous efforts Trishna 1 has shown more than average staying , ability, and lie is likely to be well suited ; by the distance of the Matamata Hack Cup, which extends to slightly oyer one mile and a quarter. The Australian-bred gelding also appreciates a hard track, and : as there is every prospect that he will have conditions in his favour next Satur- ( day his chances will have to be seriously j considered. Trishna has not won a race , since he scored in the Claudclands Highweight at the Waikato spring meeting, and ; his turn for a Win is now overdue. HALF-SISTER TO THESPIAN. A half-sister to Thespian by Limond cost • J. T. Jamieson 150gs at the yearling sales I at Trcntham last year, and she is now known as Letitia. She had her first start ! in the Sylvia Handicap, six furlongs, at 1 the Auckland summer meeting, running fifth. Her next appearance was at the Takapuna fixture, where she failed to show up in the Calliope Handicap, five furlongs. but with an extra furlong to go on ' Saturday she came from a long way back ' in the straight to dead-heat with Whirl- j along for second place. The latter was s always one of the leaders, so that it was a ] good performance on the part of Letitia to j finish on terms with her. l WON ALL THE WAY. Paganelli was solidly supported on the , first, day of the Takapuna meeting for the : Zealandia Handicap, seven furlongs. He j was drawn badly at the barrier and failed ] to jump away properly. However, he ran ' up to the leaders along the back and drop- . ped in behind them. From that point j onwards be never improved and finished ] out of a place. With a change in jockeys i in the Anniversary Handicap on the I second day, and favoured by No. 1 position at the barrier, ho went away smartly ( and nothing had a chance with him ( throughout. He returned a remunerative price and his display was much better f than in the Zealandia Handicap. 11

HURDLE ASPIRANT. Standfast is to make his appearance as a hurdler at the Matamata meeting on Saturday. He has performed prominently over a distance on the flat, and if he jumps at .all well be should make a good showing. Standfast has been schooled and is reported to have shown great aptitude. AM WON RA'S PROGRAMME. Advice has been received from Mr. C. C. Sheath, owner of Amnion Ra, that the three-year-old will not contest the Victoria St. Leger Stakes, but will run in the Caulfield Futurity Stakes, on February 20. He will then bo prepared for the Australian Jockey Club's St. Leger, to be run at Kandwick at Easter. A SPEEDY HACK. Limex is engaged in the Railway Hack Handicap, six furlongs, at Matamata next Saturday, and if she jumps away smartly she should take some beating. She won at Taumarunui, and on the second day of the last Thames meeting dead-heated with Lady Musk for first place in the Turua Handicap, six furlongs. She should be improved. MOSQUE'S GOOD EFFORT. Mosque has not done a great deal for some time past, but be looked well at Takapuna and ran a good race in the Jockey Club Handicap, nine furlongs, on Saturday, finishing third. This horse had shown excellent- form up to a mile and a quarter earlier in his carcer and it would not ibe surprising to see him on the winning list before long. HALF-BROTHER TO SUPREMACY. Soloist has not raced much this season, but at the Waipa jneeting he was one of the leaders to the straight in the Kihikihi Handicap, seven furlongs, won by Green Linnet, and finished lifth. His next appearance was in the Glasgow Handicap, of similar distance, at Ellerslie last month, and ho made another good showing for well over six furlongs, when he faded out. The half-brother to Supremacy is engaged in the Walton Handicap, seven furlongs and a quarter, at Matamata next Saturday and may be troublesome. HAS GOOD PROSPECTS. Huntingdon was not started on the first day of the Takapuna meeting, 'but on Saturday was saddled up for the Suburban Handierrp. ~s apprentice rider soon had him in front, and he and High Comedy opened up a big break on the field before the straight was reached, High Comedy going on to score by three lengths from Huntingdon. This was the latter's first appearance in open company, and with a more experienced rider aboard ho will not :be long in collecting another stake. BROTHER TO INFLATION. Instalment, the brother to Inflation, is endowed with pace, and this season he has made some good showings in his races. He won at the Waikato Hunt Club meeting at Cambridge, while he was just beaten by Persham oyer six furlongs at the Waikato .spring fixture. He was one of the leaders for a good portion of the way in the last Railway Handicap and also the Bowen Handicap, six-furlong events at the Auckland summer meeting. He is due to make his next appearance at the Matamata annual meeting next Saturday and he should be in the picture. ROTORUA RACING CLUB.
