BREACH OF TRUCE.
CHINESE ACCUSED. Reported Attack on Japs. During Negotiations. SOLDIERS ANNIHILATED. (United P.A.—Ede'Ctric Tedegraph—Copyright) SHANGHAI, February 1. The truce between the Japanese and Chinese seems to be more effective to-day, as only isolated instances of sniping are reported. A message from Tokyo, however, says the Japanese naval commander here reports that efforts by the Consular body in co-operation with the foreign military officials to establish a neutral zone failed, that the Chinese, breaking the truce, attacked Japanese marines, and that lighting is proceeding. From a dependable source it is reported that four lorry loads of Japanese soldiers, who were proceeding to the north station early yesterday morning, came under point-blank fi.ro from a Chinese battery and were completely annihilated. It is reported that Japanese marines executed 150 Chinese snipers. Artillery duels are proceeding.
