AMPLE SUPPLY.
WATER IN STORAGE. NO DANGER OF SHORTAGE. INCREASED DAILY CONSUMPTION. In spite of the long dry spell there is no danger of a water shortage in Auckland city. The supply In storage is sufficient for the next live montns. Mr. A. D. Mead, waterworks engineer to the Auckland City Council, said to-day that the total amount of water from the Waitakere Eanges in storage at present was 1430 million gallons, out of a total possible supply of 1570 million gallons, if all the dams were full. During the hot period the daily consumption of water in the city was a little under 11,000,000 gallons, the normal consumption being 8,500,000 gallons. The amount of water in storage was the equivalent of five months' supply. "There is lio restriction on the reasonable use of a hose in private gardens, provided the hose charge is paid," Mr. Mead added. The charge Is from £1 to £2, according to the size of the section, but in the case of market gardens, bowling greens, etc., the use of water is controlled by meter."
