ELOQUENT PROOFS.

WORLD'S ECONOMIC CRISIS. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, January 20. K'oquent proofs of the severity of the world economic crisis and. the shrinkage of the purchasing power, are supplied in the trade returns of Germany and Italy. In the former country the exports for 1930 amounted to £560,500,000, and for 1931 to £460,500,000. The imports amounted to £510,000,000 and £331,500,000 respectively, giving favourable trade balances of £56,000,000 and £128,750,000 for the respective years. It is pointed out that the shrinkage in exports was due to falling prices rather than to a farl in volume, and economy and prohibitions explain the decline in imports. Italy's imports in 1930 were £192,000,000, and in 1931, £129,000,000, the exports for these years being £135,000,000 and £111,500,000, giving adverse trade balances of £57,000,000 and £17,500,000 respectively.
