CONSTABLE ASSAULTED.

HOBSON STREET INCIDENT,

TWO MEN SENT TO GAOL.

Two men were sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment by Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. They were Henry Frederick Reid, a labourer, aged 31. who admitted being drunk in Hobson Street on Saturday and assaulting Constable McCurracli, and John Wilson, a labourer, aged 34, who pleaded guilty to being drunk in Hobson Street and to obstructing Constable McCurracli.

Detective Sergeant Kelly said Reid had brutally assaulted the constable while he was doing his duty.

In addition to sending Eeid to gaol, the magistrate fined him 5/ or 24 hours on the drunkenness charge.

Wilson, said Mr. Kelly, was an associate of Reid in the assaulting of the constable. He had a bad record. Wilson was convicted and discharged on the drunkenness count.
