OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Otahuhu Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, presiding. Claim for Damages.—-A claim for £82 18/6 was submitted to the council on behalf of Nurse Pee, for injuries received through falling over a kerbing in the j middle of a footpath in Park Avenue. As ■ the council is insured against all such risks, the claim was forwarded to the company concerned. Petrol Tax.—A letter .was received from the Passenger Bus Compauy pointing out j that the increased petrol tax was peri- : lously affecting the travelling public and! asking the council to support their application for an exemption from the tax. Mr. F. W. Grey remarked that local carriers had just as much right to exemption as the bus company. It was resolved to receive the letter and take no action. Relief Workers. —The relief workers' request for the use of Sturges Park was refused, owing to the football ground being closed for repairs. A request for permission to cut down four or five blue gum trees in the park for firewood to be distributed among relief workers was referred to the parks committee. Permission to hold Sunday ■ concerts will be given, subject to ■ the condition laid down by the council. Rest, Seats.—Permission was given to the parks committee to place rest seats in front of the post office, provided the authorities sanction this; also at the-cor-ner of Atkinson's Avenue and Great South Road, the corner of Princes Street and Great South Road and the corner of Avenue and Great South Eoads.
