PRICE MOVEMENTS

The following table, compiled by the "Christchurch Times," shows the price movements of tho listed shares, together with the index number. The basis of the index is July, 1930, equals 100. The index on Monday -prior to the announcement of the abandonment of the gold standard had dropped to 58.8—the lowest point reached since the first break on the New York Stock Exchange towards the end of September, 1929. The upward movement has been dramatic, amounting to 5.7S per cent in three days' trading, and it has not • finished yet. Sterling, as measured in dollars pr francs, has depreciated approximately 21.7 per cent and there must be a re-valuation of securities in terms of the new value of sterlin„. Sept. 17. Sept. 24.
