NAPIER FIRES.
WELFARE OFFICER'S LOSS. COUNTRY HOUSE DESTROYED. G3t Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER. this day. Damage amounting to several hundreds of pounds was caused by nre which swept through a house owned b;v Mr. G. B. Young, child welfare oSeer. this morning. The outbreak is believed to have been electrically caused. Xons of the members or the family were at home at the time. The upper storey was gutted and the lower storey, together with the contents, were damaged by smoke and water. Fire completely destroyed a sixroomed house, together with the contents, at Poraiie, nine miles from Xapier, last evening. The owner, Mrs. T. Baker, was away from the district The blaze started from an open fireplace just after Mr. Baker had left the house for a short time. The buHdintr and contents were both covered, but details of insurances are not available.
