RATING ACT.
CITY COUNCIL OBJECTION
TO REPEAL OF THE SECTION.
"I strongly oppose the taking from landlords the little consideration they might have received," said the Mayor, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, when information was placed before the City Council last evening that a Rating Amendment Bill had been introduced into Parliament, proposing to repeal section 69 of "The Rating Act, 1925." His Worship said the, section referred to was that which gave power to make a rebate of half rates where properties had been unoccupied for six months of the year. He said that . many property owners were finding it difficult to get tenants, and on his motion, it was decided to enter a strong objection to the repeal of the section.
