CHILDREN'S PARTY.
NAVAL BASE ENTERTAINMENT.
Many of Auckland's children were entertairied at a party given by the . petty onicers and men of H.M.S. Philomel at the Naval Base yesterday afternoon! The entertainment was given on a lavish scale and the variety of attractions ranged from donkey rides to .electric dips. The grand finale of .the afternoon was the exploding of a model airship. The interior of one of <the sheds: had been turned into a nursery.. There was a. merry-go-round in the centre and many other attractions were ranged round it. The electric dip, which contained pennies for prizes at the expense of a slight shock, was very popular. Games were arranged for the boys:and girls and all successful efforts were rewarded with prizes. Additional attractions were slides and bran tubs, and two donkeys were busy all afternoon, taking the small fry for rides. No party is complete: without-plenty of good things to eat,_ and the long tables .contained many-dainties so popular with the young. A thrilling finale;was provided by a mock fight against a huge air raider. A paper Zeppelin was suspended near the roof,, the hall was plunged into darkness and with a searchlight playing on it, it-began to glide through the air. rang out and soon the raider 'burst, showering multicoloured balloons down ;pn the delighted youngsters. .
