BRIDGING OAKLEY CREEK.
TRAM EXTENSION DELAYED.
NEW CULVERT SUGGESTED.
The Oakley Creek culvert question, which is at present holding up the tramway extension from Mount Albert to Avondale, was before the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board last evening. The engineer reported that in all probability a stormwater drainage system would ultimately be provided for the upper part of the Oakley Creek watershed. It would then be economical to abandon the existing culvert under the New North Road and build a new culvert. If the proposal were adopted it .would not be necessary for the Mount Albert Borough Council to proceed further with the building of the retaining wall to widen the roadway. He estimated the cost of the new culvert at £3000, and suggested that it should be borne by the following bodies in the proportions mentioned: Auckland City £825, Mount Albert £1353, Mount Roskill £396, and the Drainage Board £926.
The report was referred to the board's works committee, with power to act.
