DICKENS FAIR.
Weaxing delightful costumes in tie same etyle as those of manj of Dickens' characters, the helpers at the Dickens Fair held in the League of Fenwomeus rooms yesterday presented a most attractive sight. " The fair was- organised by the Dickens Fellowship to raise funds for the Dickens cot at the Auckland Hospital. In explaining the purpose of the fair, Mrs. Kenneth Gordon, the president of the fellowship, spoke of the great interest that Dickens had taken throughout his life in children. M-r. A. J. Entrican. the deputy-Mayor, spoke along the same lines, and also of the activities of the league. Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the Hospital Board, paid high tribute to the efforte of the fellowship in working for humanity as Dickens had done.. The Rev. A. B* Chappell, pastpresident of the fellowship, thanked Mr. Entrican and Mr. Wallace for their interest, after which Mr. Entrican declared the fair open. There was a large attendance during both the afternoon and evening. Miss Nutsey, lady superintendant of the hospital, being present. The stallholders were as follows: —Edwin Drood (flowers, plants, etc.), Mrs. and Miss Rennie, Miss Webster; Golden Key (novelty), Mesdames H. E. Jones, G. H. Lacy, R. J. Lusher; Little Dorrit (plain and fancy). Mesdames Preston Chambers, B. Wood, Davidson, 'Misses Hill and Marie Rountree; "The Hollow by the Flare" (lampshades and balloons), Misses MeCauley, MacCormac and Burleigh; Saint Antoine (tearoom), Mrs. Stitt, Misses Coutts,- V. Coutts, Ogilvie and M. Davidson; Jolly Tapley (knitting), Mesdames Kidson, Marsack, Upton, Misses Geddes and Sim; The Cookery (cakes). Misses E. Statham, Grant and Bell; Covent Garden Market (produce), Mesdames Robinson, Dickie, Wilson, and Wright; Dr. Marigold's Prescriptions (surprise packets), Dr. -Kenneth Gordon, Mesdames C. WolstenCroft, and Rose; Piccadilly Circus Flowersellers (hidden treasure), Misses Spicer. Lavers and Billy Lawson; Dingley Dell (sweets), Misses Haresnape, Hutchinson and Mrs. Ivan Clarke; Bellboy, Maurice Stitt. The secretary of the Dorrit division. Mrs. Kealy, and Mr. W. E. Arey, secretary of the. fellowship, were also among the invaluable workers for the fair.
