"OPPRESSIVE CHARGE."
LIFTMAN ARRESTED,
ALLEGED FALSE STATEMENT,
"This charge is a particularly oppressive one," said Mr. Cocker at the Police Court tliirs morning, when he appeared for William Robert Pulton, alias William Hugh Roberts, liftman, aged 48.
Pulton was charged that, on May 0, 1923, he knowingly and wilfully made a false statement to the Registrar of Births.
"The charge is not in any way oppressive," said Detective Sergeant Kelly, who obtained a remand until August 25. Mr. Cocker: The matter is a trivial one, which occurred eight years ago, and my client has been in custody all night. In asking that bail be substantial, Mr. Kelly said it was possible that other charges would be brought. Bail was fixed at £200, and accused was ordered to report to the police.
