PR.IME MINISTER'S VIEW, a NOT COMMERCIAL SENTIMENTS." STATEMENT BY MR. SEAMAN "The sentiments expressed by the Prime Minister are not those of the commercial community," statee Mr. A. M. Seaman, president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce in a ktter to the Canadian Trade Commissioner at Auckland, with reference to Canadian-New Zealand trade. Mr. Seaman recalls that the chamber has been urging the New Zealand Government to take immediate steps to remedy the present unsatisfactory tariff position between this Dominion and Canada; and states that the chamber takes the view that a reciprocal agreement can be made that will be of substantial benefit to 'both countries, and regards the matter as one for urgent attention. ' He adds: "The Prime Minister fe reported as having made certain statements regarding the .purpose of the British preferential tariff and its relation to New Zealand, and I wish to take this opportunity of saying, as the representative of an important section of the New Zealand business community, that the sentiments expressed by the Prime Minister are not those of the commercial community. I trust that if you are communicating with your Government you will be able to make this dear to them."
