Immediately following the decision of the Matspn Line to run a service between Auckland and San Francisco, that company, states a report from San Francisco, ordered an advertising campaign featuring New Zealand in sixteen leading newspapers in thirteen important cities in the United States.

These papers have a combined daily circulation of more than 3,500,000 copies, and include the outstanding journals of the country, such as the New York "Times," Chicago "Tribune," Boston "Transcript," Cleveland "Plain Dealer," and Detroit "Free Press" in the. East, and the Los Angeles "Times" and : "Examiner," the/ San Francisco "Chronicle" and "Examiner," and the Oakland "Tribune" and "Post-Inquirer," on the Pacific Coast.

In addition, this company has distributed to . leading . tourist agencies through the country a handsome illustrated folder entitled "Scenic New Zealand," Printed in colour, with pictures of Mount Cook, Rotorua, and other N"w Zealand'attractions, the folder will do much to educate the American public on the value of a trip to the Dominion.

"We are working energetically to stimulate interest in New Zealand, Australia and the South Seas,", said Mr. John E. Ryan, general passenger manager of the Matson Line, discussing this programme, "and tourist agencies tell us that they have many prospects for trips to these regions. We have every reason 1 to believe that New Zealand travel will show a steady growth from season to season. With the advent of magnificent new ships on this run early in 1932, we will have a new inducement to persuade people to go to the South Seas, instead of to Europe or the Mediterranean, or the North Cape, and a new era in South Pacific travel will be started."
