'fEecetsred 10 a.iru.) GLASGOW, Jult 15. The New Zealand cricketers to-day commenced a match against Scotland, in fine "weather. The start was delayed for 40 minutes owing to the heavy ground, the result of rain yesterday. The teams are as folio ws:— -Sew Zealand.—Lowry. Allcott, Blunt, Dempster, -James, Kerr, Mills, Merritt; Matheson. Talboi, Vivian. Scotland.—Alexander, Anderson, Baxter, Hiddleston. Jones, Kerr, Mc Tavist, Nicholson, Simpson, Tod, Watson. To wry won the toss and New Zealand batted first. The New Zealand batsmen generally made a poor showing. All experienced aimculty in timing their shots on the slowest wicket yet encountered. Mills was caught at mid-off. Dempster and Kerr were dismissed before lunch, and the wickets of Talbot and Vivian fell on the resumption. A timely stand by Blunt and James followed, the former again scoring principally from off-shots. Merritt and Matheson batted brightlv at the cloee, the latter being undefeated. He has been dismissed only once during the tour. Anderson and Baxter, medium righthand bowlers, bowled steadily. Hiddlestotr's slows were only effective because of weak batting. The Scottish, batsmen a!~o were unconvincing, although Kerr showed himself a fine leg-side" player. Allcott and Vivian bowled steadily without much. luck, several catches being dropped. Lowry replaced James behind the wickets, giving the regular wicketkeeper a spell. Scores: — NEW ZEALAND.—First Innings.
