WINTER EXHIBITION.

NOW DRAWING TO A CLOSE.

THE FINAL ATTRACTIONS.

PUBLIC SUPPORT MAINTAINED,

Saturday evening will gee the close of Auckland's sixteenth annual Winter Exhibition. Despite the economic situation the gate receipts this year have been well up to previous rccords, each day having seen increased attendances fai as school children are concerned. To date close on 10,000 pupils of various schools have visited the exhibition, and arrangements have been made to accommodate large numbers to-morrow. It is expected that by Saturday all previous figures will be eclipsed. Included amongst the schools visiting the exhibition to-day were the scholars attending St. Stephen's Maori Boys' School.

Judging in the New Zealand bakers' bread and cake competition commenced this morning, and will be continued tomorrow and possibly on Saturday morning. Entries in this section have been numerous, and exhibits have come from all parts of the Dominion. It is expected that the finals in the primary school girls' scone-baking competiton will be judged to-morrow afternoon. The Auckland Kennel Club's show has attracted considerable interest. Tomorrow the Alsatians, terriers and toy dogs will be on exhibition for judging, which commences at 10 a.m. sharp." Entertainment To-day. To-day's special attractions in the entertainment hall included free talkie pictures and at 7.30 p.m. the Mount Eden Boys' Band will play selections. Miss K. Boyle's pupils, assisted by Miss Patricia Boyle, will occupy the stage at 8 p.m. and talkie pictures will follow. In addition to the dog show to-morrow there will be a scone baking competition for secondary school girls as well as the final in the primary schools section. The Ponsonby Boys' Band will play at 7.30, and will be followed by the Tamaki Maoris, whose programme will consist of poi dances and hakas. The Boy Scouts will also give a display. Prom 9 till 10 to-morrow evening talking pictures will be shown. The exhibition will be closed at 10 p.m. on Saturday. Open Scone Competition Result. Judging in the open scone baking competition for amateurs was completed this morning. It was won by Mrs. R. S. McDonald, with Mrs. K. McCullough second and Mrs. V. Whaley third. Ayrshire Breeders. At a meeting of the Auckland Provincial Ayrshire Breeders' Association delegates attended from Auckland, North Auckland, Huntly, and Waiuku. The purpose of the conference was to attempt to associate breeders in the North with those of the Auckland Association. It is understood that a satisfactory settlement is likely to be reached. It was decided to hold meettings at the A. and P. shows held in Auckland, Whangarei, and Franklin, and to exhibit Ayrshire cattle at those functions. Reports from all sources indicated that the Ayrshire breed was becoming increasingly popular, especially in North Auckland. MODEL YACHTS AND SHIPS. One of the most interesting sections at the Winter Exhibition is the exhibit of model yachts, motor boats and ships displayed bv the New Zealand Society of Model and Experimental Engineers. Last year this section was represented by some 20 models in the sailing classes, but this year the entries are over 70. The engineering section also shows a marked increase, over 100 models, many of them shown at work, are displayed. The following awards were declared this morning by the judges, Messrs. W. A.
