"LOOK AHEAD."
CITY TRAFFIC OUTLETS. COMPREHENSIVE PLAN URGED. The question of city outlets was dealt with by tlie Auckland Chamber of Commerce this morning. It was decided to decline a request from the City Central Progress League, that the chamber revive the question of the. Morningside deviation, and the secretary was instructed to inquire into the progress of negotiations regarding the proposed extension of High Street through to Fort Street. The Progress League asked the chamber to press upon the civic authorities that they consider fully the future traffic demands of the city. A motion was carried as moved by Mr. C. F. Bennett, that the chamber express appreciation of the broad vision displayed by the city engineer in connection with future traffic developments, as evidenced by the report in connection with the permit for the proposed building on the corner of Belgium Street and Karangahape Road, and urge the early preparation of a comprehensive plan to provide for traffic developments 20 and 40 years ahead, such a plan to be drawn up after due consultation between the various local bodies and Government Departments concerned.
