PUKEKOHE AFFAIRS.
RATES FOR CURRENT YEAR,
The Mayor, Mr. John Routley, presided at the regular meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council. The estimates were considered, and finally it was decided to give notice of intention to strike the following rates: —General, 1 3-32 d; hospital 9-3~d; street lights, %d; interest on Joa P®> 1 17-32 d; sanitary, 37/6 per pan; rubbish collection, 7/6 per receptacle. Reductions have been made in respect of all rates, excepting interest on loans, which has been raised by 13-32 d in the £1. The Auckland Hospital Board ndvised that the levy on the borough was £804, as against £1097 the previous year. Arrangements were' made for the provision of 10 rubbish receptacles in the main thoroughfares.
The Health Department stated it was not intended to reduce by 10 per cent the amounts contributed by local bodies toward the health inspector's salary. The Mayor was appointed the council's representative on the Pukekohe Chamber of Commerce.
In the interests of economy, it was decided to reduce the number of street lights by 10. The town clerk reported that an application, with complete supporting data, had been made to the Local Government Loans Board for its sanction to the raising of a loan for the installation of a sewerage scheme.
