COMMUNITY SINGING.
SUCCESSFUL CONCERT. Old favourites and novel numbers were pleasantly blended in the lunchhour community "sing" held at the Town Hall yesterday. There was a large attendance. Mr. Grey Campbell presided, and introduced to the audience "Uncle Tom, Madam Eva Sharp, contralto, and Miss Betty Weldon. A welcome note of optimism was struck by Miss Weldon, a newcomer from England, who has led community singing in the Old Country. She quickly won the hearts of her audience with a cheery number, "Give Yourself a Pat on the Back," which has a rollicking refrain. The words, incidentally, convey a timely message of courage and optimism. Miss Weldon was deservedly encored for a clever little song-sketch.
All services to the community singing are voluntary, and the proceeds go to unendowed charities in the city.
