OTAHUHU SCHOOL
PROPOSALS FOR NEXT YEAR.
VISIT BY DIRECTOR
Commonly known before its opening at the beginning of the year as. the "mystery school," there is still a certain amount of uncertainty as to the ultimate classification of the new school at Otahuhu.. Ifc is functioning as. a junior high school, but it ifi now proposed that it should be enlarged next year, and developed: into % secondary school, 'taking pupils to the.-matricula-tion standard, and probably embracing both academic and technical, work. When the school was placed in charge of the Auckland Education Board it was thought that it would provide instruction similar to that given at the Kowliai Junior High School, but it is understood that the Department is now faced with the difficulty of providing facilities in the southern suburbs f,or pupils desirous of taking subjects past Form 111. The position at Otahuhu •> was■ discussed between the Director of Education, Mr. T. B. Strong, and representatives of the Auckland Education Board yesterday, and, although the director visited the school site this morning, a decision will not be made until he returns to Wellington and confers with the Minister of Education. It is considered that when the school is enlarged next yeaf it will probably be given a technical bias, while at the same time providing instruction for those pupils wishing to take a purely academic course.
