SWING TO THE LEFT.
Effect of Depression Shown In Germany. EXTREMISM PREDOMINANT. (Received 11 a.m.) BERLIN, July 5. Germany's 4,000,000 unemployed who are estimated to .have 8,000,000 dependents, are subsisting, to Dr. Bruening, the Chancellor, on a dole not exceeding £2 10/ to £3 10/ per month. In addition there are 1,500,000 middle class unemployed whose plight is worse. Herr Hitler's followers, who were numbered at 800,000 in 1928, are estimated now at 10,000,000, and the Communists at 6,000,000. Thus the Fascists and Communists control about half the electorate. As a result of the drift to extremism, there has been a wave of violence throughout the country.
