CALLIOPE CLUB.
Weather conditions -were ideal on Saturday afternoon when the Calliope Harrier Club decided a 31-mile road race handicap, for a gold medal donate'd by Mr. E. J. Clayton. " ' ■ _ ~ The order home was: —G. Davidson (1755), actual time 19.20, 1; A. H. Harte (190s), 19.36, 2; W. Armour (200s), 19 55, 3; H. Turner (2705). 21.30; A. Gilfillan (2705). 21.32; D. Smith (30s), 17.35; \V. H. McCombie (60s), 18.15. Fastest" time : D. Smith, 17.35. Second fastest time: A. Rowland. 15.5. Next Saturday the Calliope Glub will hold a field day at the Takapuna racecourse. ■■;
'VARSITY CLUB
. The University .Harriers' Club held a training run at Mount Roskill. -The course went to Waikowhal, covering seven miles on steep, undulating, boggy country, including the Three Kings and Mount Roskill. There were 40 starters. They sot oft in three packs, the fast, medium pace and slow. The latter started off five minutes ahead of the other two, and kept ahead for about six miles. -In the last two miles the fast and medium packs attempted to overtake the leaders, but failed to do so. The run in was of 300 yards, finishing at the school. Results : —Kingston 1, L Ross 2, V. Simmonds 3, E.- Magee 4, J.' Graham 5, H. Hazard 6. Every member, including the novices, ran well over the trying course.
TECHNICAL OLD BOYS.
• The Technical College Old Boys' Athletic Club held a handicap race at Onehunga, from the home of Mr. T. M. Wilson, the harrier captain. . The limit men. Stewart and Dow, set a very hot pace, but Bradley caught them about two miles from the start and, keeping the lead, won easily. There was a very' close race for place honours. Dow staying best to win by three yards ahead of Gudsell, who was a similar distance ahead of Hill. This w'aa the first appearance of both Bradley and Dow this spason. Fastest time was again done by Gordon Hi 11—2.40. The finish was:—H. G. Bradley (4.0), 1, C Dow (6.0) 2, S. .T. Gudsell (2.0) 3, G. Hill (scr.) 4, L. C. Barker (scr.) 5, R. Yf. ■Longwbrth (4.30) G. The race next week will be an inter-club race with the University harriors and nrobably the Auckland Club over the same cour«e 'not at Mission Bay, as previously announced, runners to meet at the Royal Oak Memorial at 2.30 p.m.
