SUPERANNUATED CIVIL SERVANTS.
ANNUAL MEETING HELD,
The annual meeting of the Auckland branch of the Superannuated Public Servants' Association was held yesterday afternoon, the president, Mr. M. Guthrie, presiding.
The annual report showed the finances of the association were in credit to the extent of £19, and that financial members totalled 133. Comment was made concerning the efforts made at the last Dominion conference to have poorly-paid annuitants exempted from the unemployment levy. Attention had also been drawn to the gross unfairness of highly-paid superannuitants, accepting appointments which would otherwise go to people who have nothing. The council, however, had •taken no action in the matter. Proposals to be placed before this year's conference related to the establishment of a funeral fund," the possibility of reducing administrative costs by tlie amalgamation of various superannuation boards; the need for urging that income privileges now applying to National Provident Fund contributors should apply also to any superannuated civil servant who may have to seek an old-age pension, and the possibility of securing exemption from the unemployment levy at the age of 65 of lowerpaid Civil Service annuitants. The report was adopted. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—President, Mr. M. Guthrie (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs. J. M. Drummond, S. Kennedy and Mrs. M. J. Jenkinson; secretary, Mr. W. 'MeNickle; assistant secretary, Mr. J. Duggan; committee, Messrs. W. Burtenshaw, G. Green, J. T. Holmes, F. H. Murphy, W. C. Moloney and Misses J. McKay and M. Carnie; auditor, Mr. C. Bishoprick (reelected).
