CLAY-BIRD CHAMPIONSHIP.
SHOOTING AT RUAXURA. M. PRATT WINS N.Z. TITLE. Oh Saturday the Dominion clay-bird championship of 21 birds was fired at Ruakura, and was won by Murray Pratt in a close contest with B. Thornton, of Thames. Pratt won on the shoot-off. There were six entries, and the shooting took place.from the 18-yard marlc. Pratt proved that he was the superior by shooting four birds out of five to Thornton's two out of five in the shoot-off. Other results in the championship event were :—Twenty birds : J. McMullan (Kai*ohe), ,T. McMillen (Hamilton). J. Mills (Hastings), A. N. Turner (Christehurch), W. Elliott (Nelson). Nineteen birds: C. Seddon (Hamilton), I. G. Watkins. (Bangijra), J. Donnelly (Auckland), E. King (Waihi). Eighteen birds: G. Brown (Auckland), T. Parker (Napier), B. Green (Stratford), A. E. Macredie (Auckland), H. Clinch (Auckland). Seventeen birds: R. H. Bartley (Anckland). : • An American shoot of 15 birds resulted in D. Fraser (Te Kuiti), G. Brown (Auckland), C. Seddon (Hamilton), M. Pratt (Otorohanga), J. Amundsen (Matamata), C. E. Bretherton (Taihape), J. Duncan (Taihape), and A. N. Turner (Christchurch) securing the possible and dividing the prize-money. / There were 40 entries. In a double-rise shoot of six pairs of birds D. S. Ewing (Whangnrata) secured the possible. J. Duncan (Taihape) and G. Peach (Hamilton) were runners-up with 11 birds each. There were 38 entries. The Hamilton Gun Club's trophy for the best barrel performance over 'the two opening days was won by A. Nickle, of Hawera, who was successful with 50 shots out of a possible of 54.
