STOCK MAY SUFFER FROM SNOW. TELEGRAPH LUTES AFFECTED. (By Telegraph.—Press' Association.) CHRISTGHURCTI, this clay. There is a heavy snowfall all over Canterbury to-day after light falls with sleet and rain overnight. The back country is all covered and stock may suffer if the fall continues. A number of breaks in telegraph linos are reported, including one at Kirwce, on the West Coast route, and one north of Kaikoura, but communication is being maintained by the use of other circuits. SCENE AT TIMARU. BACK RANGES DEEPLY COATED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARU, this day. Timaru people awoke this morning to find the ground mantled in snow which fell during the night. After daylight there was a further fall but later the sun shone and much of the snow thawed. The fall was approximately half an inch. The heaviest electrical disturbance in many years was experienced at Te Kuiti between 1.30 and 2.30 this morning. Vivid lightning, accompanied by heavy claps of thunder, occurred at short intervals, followed by a cloudburst lasting ten minutes. No damage has been reported. The weather outlook is brighter this morning. SNOW AT ASHBURTON. HEAVIEST FOR THIRTY YEARS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, this day. The county last night experienced the heaviest fall" of snow for 30 years. It was seven inches at Methveu, from three to four inches in Ashburton, and half an inch, with heavy hail and sleet, along the coast. There was an hour of sunshine this morning, after which snow fell again. The Power Board has lost seven poles as the result of collapses through the weight of snow.
