PRISONERS' AID SOCIETY.

ACTIVITIES FOR YEAR. NEED FOR PUBLIC SUPPORT. A meeting of the Auckland Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society was held on Wednesday. Archbishop Averill presided, and those present included the Rev. Canon Haselden, the Rev. J. E. Draper, Mr. Bart Clark, Mr. P. Hawley, and Rev. G. E. Moreton, secretary and treasurer. The treasurer submitted a statement of receipts and expenditure for the period dated September, 1930, to June, 1931, inclusive. The total receipts from all sources, including interest on the Campbell bequest, were £75 10/9, and the Christmas Cheer fund for prisoners £19 16/6, making a total of £243 17/2. Orders for meals, beds, groceries, blankets and assistance to wives and families of prisoners amounted to £140 0/6; railway and steamer fares, £28 18/4; Christmas cheer for prisoners, £22 6/11: special cases and sundry accounts. £32 8/11; leaving a balance of £22 6/11. The number of ex-prisoners, wives and families assisted numbered 314. The Rev. Jasper Calder, Messrs. H. R. Jones and C. M. Browne were elected to the committee. Xo charge is made for administration, and the committee stressed the need of greater financial support from the public.
