Diplomatic Note to Italian Government. SEQUEL TO RECENT TROUBLE. (Received 12.30 p.m.) ROM]-], June 2. The Pope lias protested diplomatically to the Italian Government, alleging violation of the Concordat. The Prime Minister, Signor Mussolini, hae accordingly asked not only for apologies, but also that severe action be taken against the ringleaders of attacks in the recent disturbances on Roman Catholic property. Along with the Italian Government's instructions to the newspapers not to refer to the dispute with the Church, the hierarchy has instructed the bishops throughout the country to restrict their activities to their church duties, and not to take part in political organisations, ■ Meanwhile diplomatic negotiations have been opened to seek a friendly settlement. They arc. inspired by a statement from the Vatican that the State and the Vatican arc most anxious to preserve the Concordat.
