THE MODERN NERO.
"Nero's" indifference to the burning of Rome is just about eclipsed >by the awful ' apathy displayed by the heads of our so-called 1 social workers in so far ae at least the unemployment of our young girls de concerned, as evidenced by the last meeting of the . New Zealanders' Association. Quite 400 girls eager to secure positions learnt from our secretary ; that of four professing "helping" organisation* written to about a delegate to attend, not one responded. Regarding married women occupying positions, one glaring instance mentioned 1 was that of a woman, whose husband is earn* ' ing over £5 weekly, acting as typist from nine o'clock to five o'clock each day and then going as usher in the evening at a picture theatre. In the name of humanity may I impress upon you, sir, the great importance of furthering the interests of young girls in our midst sorely in need of employment. Our association is out to do all it can with as little delay as possible. The position is indeed desperate. ARTHUR CUMMINGS.
