TRACK GALLOPS.

WORK AT ELL^RSLIE.

EAGER ROSE'S GOOD EFFORT. CARINTHIA DISAPPOINTS OVER STEEPLES. The weather was wet and cold for training work at Ellerslie this morning, and consequently the going was cutting out a bit. All the fast gallops were done on the No 1 track, on which the _ poles were 6ft out from the inner rail. The steeplechase course wa9 also open, several horses being schooled, including Carinthia, whose display was disappointing. Ine hurdles were also erected on the course proper, but were in little demand.

No. I Grass. Gold Money, carrying a light weight, wae not extended to cover six furlongs in 1.28 4-5. After cantering round to the threefurlong post Gold Lily sprinted home in 40s, hitting out very freely in the soft ground. Ruling King was given a six-furlong task, which he completed in 1.21 2-5. Desert Star, going easily, got to the end of six furlongs in 1.28 1-5. Lady Court wae timed to run her last five furlongs in 1.11 1-5, after going slowly over the first furlong. Sir Mond, Puriri Park and Hampton Park jumped off at the five-furlong post, taking 26s for the first two furlongs, and completing their task in 1.5. Sir Mond finished slightly in front of Puriri Park, who was not bustled over the last part. Taneriri had Catoma as a companion over seven furlongs, which occupied 1.33 1-5. They were together at the finish, and both worked well. Eager Roee, who is engaged at Te Awamutu on Saturday, after running her first three furlongs in 38 2-ss, completed a six-furlong task in 1.19 3-5. Te Money went with her, but was lengths behind at the finish, her time being 1.21 4-5. Corinax was too good for Wild Country over seven furlongs, which took 1.32 3-5. Gorinax was going a bit short before his gallop, but he moved freely enough in his trial. Cynthia N. strode over a round, running the last half mile in 55 3-ss. This mare is looking exceptionally well. The hurdle candidate Patutahi was allotted a round, which he completed in 2.1 2-5, the last seven furlongs taking 1.39, and the final six 1.26 1-5. Brown Prince and Scotland Yard were on terms at the end of half a mile in 53 2-ss. They were both kicked up to their work at the finish. Gay Cockade got to the end of seven furlongs in 1.36. Manawhenua and Full Measure completed five furlongs in 1.7 2-5. There was nothing between them at the end. Brampton was let off with an easy tEUsk, covering his last half-mile in 59 1-os, while Neil was timed to run a round in 2.5 4-5. Hawthorne and Dafma were sprinted down the straight, both moving nicely. The half-brother to Maori Boy and the Weathervane filly in J. Lambess , stable sprinted three furlongs in 42 l-ss. Others to do useful tasks were Stimulant, Grand Spirit, Royal Survey, Semicircle, Royal Day, Silent Miss, Town Beauty, General Lu and Inevitable.

The Jumpers. Billy Boy (Campbell) jumped four hurdles on the outside of the course proper. He jumped safely, but had not much pace on. Scaramouche (Campbell), Dark Prince (Olive), Land Measure (McGovern) and ilaunga King (Williams) were allotted a schooling task over a round of the steeplechase course. They started at the Bodwali, where Maunga King came to grief, but his rider got off with a shaking. The other three continued on over the double, stonewall, brush and the hill, where Land Measure tipped out at the first fence. Dark Prince and Scaramouche, who were together at this stage, finished up over the hurdlee on the course proper, both giving a good exhibition. Land Measure was remounted and completed her echoolin B " safely. St. Lucas joined in at the mile post, and was well back behind Dark Prince and Scaramouche at the finish. The Great Northern candidates Carinthia (F. Thompson) and Importer (Campbell) set out on a similar mission, but after clearing the sodwall Importer went away from Carinthia, who had not much pace on, and consequently baulked at the first fence of the double. Importer jumped the other fences on the flat and was then pulled up, but Carinthia was not persevered with, his display being disappointing.

Afterwards Importer (Campbell) and Mauuga King (Williams) jumped the sod wall, double and stonewall, Importer giving a much better display than during his first effort. After jumping the first fence of the double Maunga King swerved into Importer, and in consequence Importer received a cut on the off hind leg, which bled profusely. However, the injury, it is thought, will not cause any serious interruption to his work.
