Tenakoe hae been schooling well over hurdles at Te Awamutu. The Marble Arch gelding has yet to have a start as a hurdler, but as it is understood he. is to have his Great Northern engagement kept for him he should be capable of a fair effort on Saturday. In Good Order. First Lap is in good order for, her race in the Awakino Handicap. The Lapidary filly hit out well in a gallop over seven furlongs at Te Rapa the other morning. She likes the ground soft, and after her success at Pukekohe there must be some prospect for her in the mile engagement just ahead. Mervette has freshened up a lot as the result of her latest work on the tracks. The Lucullus—Brayton mare figures in the President's Handicap at Te Awamutu with the handy weight of 7.6. When raced on this course in December, Mervette ran a good second to In the Shade, and ehe must be respected in the race ahead. Flying Prince is another member of A. Tinker's stable who is engaged on Saturday. The Flying King colt has been working quite freely. He gallops best on a yielding track. Prince Lu is to tackle the big country at Te Awamutu. In his schooling efforts at Cambridge he has shown some hesitancy at his fences, but he should soon get over that. The fences at Te Awamutu are not difficult. Spalpiko Pleasing. According to reports from Te Awamutu, Spalpiko has been jumping the big fences in very bold style. The Spalpeen gelding is not a stranger to steeplechasing and he would only need to be near his best to have a chance oil Saturday with 9.4. King Ford is to keep his engagement in the second division of the Te Kumi Hack Handicap at Te Awamutu. The King Lnpin gelding was beaten into third place at Pukekohe, but he is well and is likely to make amends on Saturday. Holly Holm and Prince of Orange are members of M. J. Carroll's team who will be racing at the Te Kuiti meeting. These horses moved nicely in a half-mile gallop at Te Rapa 011 Tuesday morning. Prince of Orange may be in need of a race, as he has had only one start for several months. Star Comet has commenced his Great Northern Steeplechase preparation. The Day Comet gelding is to be ridden by P. M. Brady. Page Boy is now in Brady's stable, which also quarters Royal Visitor, who has recently been placed in commission.
