STATE ADVANCES LOANS,
GOVERNMENT'S RECORD
"POSITION NOW NORMAL." j The Government's record concerning State advances was briefly outlined by the Prime Minister, the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes, at Otaliuhu last night. Mr. Forbes said that when the United party took office in December, 1928, there was a large number of outstanding applications for loans, comprising settlers, 908, amounting to £1.202,780, and workers, 2973, amounting to £2,965,510. In accordance with the Government's election promises, those arrears were quickly overtaken. From December 10, 1928, to April 30 last, the following advances had been paid to applicants:— Loans to settlers (5922), £6,984,660. Loans to workers (0502), £5,517,527. "That makes a total of 12,424 loans, representing £12,502,187," added the Prime Minister. "All applications are now being dealt with as quickly as possible, and the present position regarding them is normal."
