HAWKE'S BAY EARTHQUAKE FUND. An appeal was made in the Presbyterian churches yesterday for contributions towards the cost of restoring church buildings damaged by the earthquake in Hawke's Bay.

PAPAKURA MEMORIAL.

SERVICE AT! CHRIST'S CHURCH. A tablet in memory of the late Mr. Harry E. Mogford, who was a synodeman and vestryman both at Matamata and at Papakura, was unveiled by Archbishop Averill at a service at Christ's Church, Papakura, on Sunday evening. The service was conducted by the Vicar, Rev. W. C. Wood, assisted by Archdeacon J. W. Simpkin. The addrees wae given by the Archbishop, who referred to Mr. Mogford as a man who had not only helped his fellowmen by worthy service, but hn' 1 helped them also by the example of his own God-fearing life. Even when physically unfit for duty, he had been at the forefront of church work. The service was attended by representatives of the Papakura Town Board, the Papakura Bowling Club and members of other denominations. The tablet is of brass and is inscribed: "To the glory of God and in memory of Harry Ernest Mogford, Synodsman and Vestryman, born January 30, 1877, died November 30, 1930, aged 53 years."

HIGHER THOUGHT TEMPLE.

The Women's Progress Club conducted the Sunday morning's service at the Higher Thought Temple, Wellington Street. The occasion was observed as "Mother's Day," and white flowers were worn by all present. Mrs. Moller gave an inspiring address on "Mother's Texte," and called to mind the wellremembered texts of childhood. The children of the Sunday study class ateo took part in the service.

BIBLE SOCIETY SUNDAY.

Under the auspices of the Council of Christian Congregations and the British and Foreign Bible Society, special reference was made at the services yesterday to the objects and activities of the latter organisation. Sermons were preached on "The Tower of the Bible" and "The Greatest Book in the World," emphasis being laid upon the vast publication of the Scripture by the Bible Society and the great work 'entailed in the translation of the sacred volume into so many different languages and dialects.
